Sony secures patent for death-stranding path creation feature

Sony has been officially granted the patent for a Death Stranding feature. This company now owns the patent for the feature to create paths and maps in Kojima Productions’ flagship title. This feature could be a model for future open-world titles on Sony’s platform.

According to the United States Patent and Trademark office posting Sony just obtained the patent “Terrain radar and gradual construction of a route within a virtual environment for a videogame”. Hideo Kojima, the head of Kojima Productions, is the inventor of this technology.

This patented technology allows games to adjust paths and structures based on player activity. This feature is visible in Death Stranding, where players can see ropes, ladders, roads and cargo left behind. This technology could be used in future games by PlayStation.

Death Stranding is currently a game that takes place in an open world. It’s up the players to collaborate to make it possible for everyone to traverse. The game tracks areas where players leave behind useful tools and structures that can be used to help other players.

We’ll have to wait to see if there’s another “Strand” game that encourages players to support each other through its features
