Final Fantasy XIV is always an exciting moment when new job changes are announced in Live Letters or patch notes. The latest Live Letter delved into the critical changes being made to Jobs all across the board with FFXIV patch 6.1 released on April 12. As a long-standing Ninja main, one thing stood out for me — the Death of Trick Attack.

Trick Attack was our only actual utility, our source of income, and our sole purpose. It’s what gets us invited to parties, and it may be why we get a player commendation after the dust settles. Trick Attack is our lifeblood as Ninja mains. That will end on April 12. It’s not going away, but it’s getting a significant nerve.

Details about how Ninja is being modified were also included in the FFXIV patch 6.1 job changes. The best part is that Trick Attack’s 5% damage-taken buff on the enemy won’t apply to the entire party. Instead, it will increase the enemy’s damage from the Ninja who used Trick Attack. It will not increase your entire party, but only your DPS.

This changes the dynamics of Ninja, as the Job’s entire opener and attack rotation was centred around Trick Attack. To make up for the change, other Job areas are being strengthened. We may not lose our Ninja primary purpose. However, we will have to adapt and adapt to new ways of doing business and improving our party’s DPS output. We may be more efficient moving forward.

Mug assumes the role of Trick Attack. Profile will use the damage-taken buff on the enemy to increase the party’s damage output. The action will continue with a 120-second off the global cooldown. It has not been suggested that the Ninki gauge’s boost could be removed. One question remains: What is the damage increase for the enemy affected?

These changes are a boon to Ninja. While Trick Attack is nerfed, we still get some DPS boosts from it. With the new Mug, we will still be able to help the party with its DPS output. To me, this sounds like a win-win situation! We may even get a better spot in DPS overall than other Jobs.

Ninja’s utility will increase as we have a personal DPS and a party DPS booster. This all depends on how much and what percentage of the status effects Mug and Trick Attack apply to Ninja. We are not sure if this means increases or decreases in potency (and to which degree), but we will keep an eye out for it.
