Some fans feel resentful about the Microsoft/Activision Blizzard merger.

The Call of Duty franchise has grown to be one of the best-selling video games of all time. This series is no doubt a big reason why Microsoft paid $68.7 Billion to buy Activision Blizzard.

Sony was worried that Microsoft would pull Call of Duty from PlayStation at a later date and instead keep the game on its green label.

Microsoft has admitted that it would not be profitable if Call of Duty was restricted to Xbox only.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard began in January 2022. Many assumed the deal would be completed already, but there is still a long way to go before it can be finalized. It was not the PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan who threw a wrench in the works, but the FTC, and CMA, which were the US and UK regulators.

Microsoft won the recent court case against the FTC and is now one step closer to the completion of the acquisition. We’ll just have to wait and see what the CMA does in the UK.

Phil Spencer, Xbox’s head of corporate affairs, revealed that, following Microsoft’s victory in court, a contract had been signed by PlayStation, ensuring that Call of Duty would remain on the blue label. The details of the agreement are not yet known, including contract duration.

The ‘binding contract’ only included Call of Duty, which is due to it only covering the first-person popular series.

It was rejected. “Outlets[ like the Verge] had published Phil Spencer’s email to Jim Ryan, proposing to maintain ALL current Activision Blizzard (CoD Overwatch games, Crash Spyro, etc.) on PlayStation. This deal now only applies to CoD. Jim Ryan may have made a mistake,” commented on Redditor, olorin9_alex. The sarcastic Joeyrvn said, “Let’s say goodbye to classic Microsoft franchises such as Crash, Spyro Diablo, Overwatch, and Tony Hawk… These are not in the deal.”

Another user said, “I could care less about COD.” I don’t like those games. “I would like to have access to Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Dishonored, Doom, Wolfenstein, but it looks as though that won’t happen.”
