It’s true. Omni-Man is heading to Mortal Kombat 1. It’s better still that J.K. Simmons is reprising the role.

Mortal Kombat 1,, is scheduled to be released on the 19th of September. The game is a “soft reboot” of the Mortal Kombat series, a departure from Mortal Kombat 12 that many fans were expecting. It will be based on a “reborn Mortal Kombat Universe” created by Fire God Liu Kang, ushering “a new age of the iconic series with new fighting systems, game modes, and fatalities.” The first look we got at the gameplay is the most gruesome that has ever been seen in this franchise. For several months, rumors have circulated that would be bringing in a few familiar faces as special fighters. We now know that some of them are Omni-Man, voiced by J.K. Simmons.

Overall, San Diego Comic-Con has been pretty calm. Marvel has skipped Hall H for the first, and last time in a long time. Star Wars keeps its announcements for Star Wars Celebration and DC announced its upcoming slate of games a few years ago. NetherRealm confirmed that Omni-Man will appear alongside Peacemaker and Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1.

Ed Boon, NetherRealm’s Ed Boon confirmed in an on-floor interview that J.K. Simmons will be voicing Omni-Man – as he did for the Amazon Prime Series Invincible. Boon said, “It is as authentic as possible.”

Omni-Man is included in the first DLC Kombat Pack, which includes Quan Chi as well as Takeda and Ermac. Homelander and Peacemakers are also part of this pack. John Cena is not confirmed to be returning as the voice of Peacemaker, but we will keep an eye on any confirmation.
