The Diablo series is one of the most popular RPGs in its genre and each release is met with a wave of excitement from loyal fans of the franchise.

When Diablo IV arrived earlier this year, it was supposed to be a triumphant release for Blizzard Entertainment. Sadly however, despite becoming the publisher’s fastest-selling game of all time and making a whopping $666 million within its first five days of launch, it’s been a frustrating time of late for the developer and fans alike.

As with most games of its kind, the servers can be strained as fans clammer to get in on the action. Thankfully, those server issues are often quickly resolved. Yet, when gamers are losing level 100 characters permanently to no fault of their own, and fans vent their frustrations by review bombing the game following a controversial patch, there seems to be no end to the recent woes of Diablo IV.

Unfortunately, it seems that Diablo IV fans might have more reason to be annoyed and this time it’s not due to server issues or baffling choices made via a patch, but rather potentially banning players permanently for using mods and that includes ones that aren’t used for cheating.

In a forum post, Blizzard Entertainment confirmed that it will suspend or permanently ban accounts for using mods of any kind. This includes a popular mod that was used for Diablo III called the ‘TurboHUD4′.

The TurboHUD4 doesn’t give the players a gameplay advantage, it just simply makes the user interface easier on the eye and allows players to keep track of their stats with added ease. Yet, Blizzard has confirmed that the use of TurboHUD4 will be prohibited in Diablo IV.

“All Diablo IV players agree to the Blizzard EULA as a condition of playing the game. The Blizzard EULA explicitly prohibits cheating, bots, hacks, and any other unauthorized software which automates, modifies, or otherwise interferes with the game. This is important to players’ security as well as the game’s long-term integrity,” announced Blizzard.

It continued: “With that in mind, we want to make it clear that TurboHUD4, like any game-modifying software, is prohibited for use with Diablo IV. Players who install this kind of software will put their accounts at risk for disciplinary action, which can include permanent suspension.”
