Xbox Live Gold releases its last free game before it closes forever
The end of an age is here. Xbox Live Gold’s final set of games has been released before the service disappears.
Xbox Live Gold will be shut down forever on 1 September. Microsoft will instead launch Xbox Game Pass Core. This is separate from the Console and Ultimate Editions of Game Pass. This Core Tier will cost $9.99, and include access to online multiplayer as well as a selection of 25 Game Pass games. You’ll have to choose the Console Edition or Ultimate Edition if you want to access the entire catalog. This includes day-one releases like the upcoming Starfield. This is not a decision you have to make just yet. Xbox Live Gold has released its last batch of games and is still going strong.
Two games are included in the August Drop: Blue Fire, and Inertial Drift. The games will both be on sale from the 1st to 31st of August and are worth a total reported value $39.98. This is not a lineup that will blow you away, but let me explain what each of the games entails.
Blue Fire was published by Graffiti Games and released in 2021. It is an adventure platformer with an action theme. The game is a platformer, but I haven’t played it yet. It looks like the game has some challenging boss battles, and it’s got a Zelda aesthetic. I am eager to play this.
Second, there’s Inertial Drift developed by PQube Limited. It was released in 2020. It’s not surprising that this is an arcade racing game. Inertial Drift is set in the 90s retro-future (a confused combination of words) and “offers an entirely new level of challenge and accessibility to arcade racing genre”
