According to a leaked listing at Amazon, Starfield will be free to download for all this week.

Starfield can be downloaded by Xbox Game Pass members and those who pre-ordered it. However, I must stress that you cannot play the game yet just because you have downloaded it. Early access folks will be able to play the game on 1 September, while everyone else can start playing it on 6 September.

is glad to hear that, as the game weighs in at an impressive 125GB. This gives us enough time to download the game and make it ready for release. We’ll be fine, assuming we don’t get hit with a huge day-one patch.

What about us? What can we do? According to an Amazon listing that was leaked, Starfield will be pre-downloaded for all users starting on 9 August. It’s only a couple of days!

It’s possible that Amazon posted the information incorrectly, but it seems like most people believe this is true. Fans are naturally happy to have weeks before they need to install the game. After all, there is nothing more frustrating than taking time off to play a game, only to wait for it to take hours to download.

On the Starfield subreddit, fans have expressed concern about a possible day-one patch that could ruin launch day. The last game by Bethesda Softworks had a huge day-one patch. Starfield was delayed by 12 months. Bethesda also stated that it is their least bugged game.
