House of the Dead House of the Dead is the first-person light gun arcade game launched on the market by Sega on Japan on the 13th of September 1996. The game was later released worldwide on March 4, 1997. The game is the very first of The House of the Dead series. It uses a light gun (or mouse in The PC game) to shoot and aim at zombies that are approaching. The guns of the characters are magazines that hold six rounds.
Players reload their guns using a shot away from the screen. Torches placed next to each magazine player indicates the the remaining health. If a player suffers injury or is shot by a hostage one of their torch is eliminated. A player is killed when the torches have been destroyed.
First aid kits are accessible throughout the game that can repair the torch. A few are available from the rescue of hostages. Other torch packs are concealed within broken objects. The special items are found inside other breakables. They offer an extra bonus to players who shoots these items.
